ISSMA State

Yesterday, we competed in the ISSMA State competition at Lawrence Central High School after qualifying through district rounds. Our band and orchestra had been rehearsing for weeks, and I felt confident facing our main rival, Avon High School, especially since we chose challenging pieces. Despite a bus breakdown that forced us to squeeze the entire orchestra into two buses, we made it to the venue and set up.

Our orchestra’s performance in the auditorium went flawlessly, followed by a smooth sight-reading session that our director praised. I then joined the band and repeated the process, with another strong performance and a challenging sight-reading portion. Later, we were thrilled to learn that we achieved a perfect score in sight-reading, and even more excited when we found out we had won first place for both band and orchestra. It was an unforgettable day.
